Inside the Hotel – The Royal Experience
Stay in the heart of Dungog’s heritage-listed town centre, just a short walk from Dungog Railway Station and local cafés. The Royal Hotel has been part of the community for over 175 years, recently restored to offer stylish guest rooms, a classic bar and dining room, and a welcoming vibe.
With most rooms upstairs (no lift), and a self-contained ground-floor apartment and studio for those needing easy access, there’s an option for everyone. Shared bathrooms upstairs have been updated with private facilities and premium amenities. All guests receive bathrobes and slippers.
A shared guest kitchen and lounge area provides added convenience, and lock-up garages are available for bikes and motorcycles.
Things to do in Dungog
From cycling and hiking in Barrington Tops to exploring local galleries and the historic James Theatre, there’s plenty to fill your stay.
Unique shopping is available at nearby Chic and Antique, Inspired by Design, Hidden Valley Clothing, and Chic Clothing Co. Dungog’s town centre has many relaxed eating options, such as the Long Room, The Barn, The Tinshed Brewery and The Trading Post.
Our accommodation is popular on weekends and during seasonal events, so we recommend booking ahead. We’re easily accessible by car or train from Newcastle, Maitland and Greater Sydney.

We are currently closed for meals and drinks on Monday, but open 7 days a week for accommodation. Bookings recommended for large groups. Special function hours by arrangement.
Lunch can ordered from 11.30am and dinner from 6.00pm.
